The discussed object is one of the most prominent and recognizable ones in Cracow. It is difficult to pass it by and fail to focus on the intricacies of its architectural design.
History of theatre
Since its very begging, the theatre has caused numerous controversies. It was built at the end of the 19th century to replace a demolished church, St. Spirit Order, and a hospital for poor. It is believed that the design of the object was based on the look of the Paris Opera.
The construction of the object was to a notable extent connected with the development of the city. What is more, it was the very first building in Cracow, in which electric lighting was installed. The interior of the theater is exceptionally rich and exquisite, making it one of the most beautiful objects of this kind in Poland. The inside of the theatre is decorated with frescoes made by an artist from Vienna – Anton Tuch.
One should also take a closer look at the famous oil painting by Henryk Siemiradzki, who did not want a remuneration for his work. The curtain that the painting represents is not rolled up, but rather lifted upwards at the beginning of each performance.
Numerous prominent Polish actors started their career there. Plays presented in the theater are not only of high artistic quality, but they are also enriched by live orchestral music.
