History of Cracow bagels

The history of those food products is quite long, as first mentions about the bagels date back to the 14th century. At first, they could have been made by appointed bakers only. After the 15th century, all masters in their craft were granted the opportunity of doing so.

How bagels are made?

In Poland, we called it obwarzanki. We know, that it’s hard to pronounce  this name:) Cracow bagels are a kind of gourmet, yeast-based wheat crisp bread pieces. They consist of 2 to 3 layers of dough which are rolled together and connected to make a shape of a circle. Before baking, the product is dipped in boiling water (in polish it is called “obwarzanie”), giving it its unique taste and aroma. Bagels are typically sprinkled with salt, poppy seeds, sesame, or cheese. If you would like to try local quisine, you surely should opt for Cracow bagels.

Bagels have become the symbol of Cracow. They may be purchased in numerous places from vendors selling them from their carts. Every single day, around 150 thousand bagels are made. Their price equals 0.4 E (1,5-1,6 PLN) per piece.
